How Does The K-3 Image Looked If Shot At ISO 51200

Dear friends.........

Just a quick post of the Pentax K-3 image at ISO 51200 and not even the right. And don't forget, this is a completely dark area. With the camera settings at ISO 51200, the Exposure is still way low.

Below is the original image from the K-3 JPEG.
Pentax K-3 With Pentax DA 50mm f1.8 at ISO 51200 Firmware v1.0

Settings for the above image are:
Pentax K-3 Firmware v1.0
Tamron 17-50 f2.8 @ 43mm
Aperture at f2.8 (Not the sharpest I admit. Should be at f4. My bad)
Shutter Speed at 1/30 sec
ISO 51200
Setting at Natural with sharpness at Extra Fine
In camera NR Off
SR on

Below is the approx 100% crop

Not sure is it whether the focusing screwed up at this pitch dark enviroment or the noise are just too massive. Would be sharper at f4 I recon.

Done a bit of brightness on the JPEG with Post Process

You wont want to make prints larger than 4R with this image do you?

And a 100% crop

Yuks......... Now it gets even worst. What if I use the RAW files and see what Adobe Camera Raw can do? I know is not hte best for this kind of recovery.

RAW After NR

Approx 100% Crop

So the conclusion is, although its almost unprintable at this high ISO especially in extremely crappy lighting or none at all, it still captures the image with decent details. Like I say, could have been sharper at f4 but on the other hand darker. So is a trade off. At least I still can see the cat figure rather than just a piece of junk when zoomed in.

Cheers and take a break............
